Catch & Recycle: Spear Fishing

  • By 2025 there will be a 3 to 1 ratio of fish to plastic. By 2050 there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. To bring awareness to this vastly growing issue, I illustrated this statistic by bringing the amazing plastic trash sculptures/creations of Ricardo Ramos (@xicogaivota) to life in a series titled, CATCH & RECYLE.

Each fish has been created though found plastic debris along the coast of Portugal. The sculpture creations of the fish in real life measure 112cm x 60cm (4ft by 2 ft). Items used to create the fish have not been altered but have been used in their original found state.

Are you a plastic hero? Are you catching (collecting) and recycling?
  • From afar most beaches look serene and beautiful as the sun sets, but take a closer look and you’ll discover that things are not always what they seem. Plastics left on beaches or discarded in our oceans threaten marine life as well as our own, with traces of plastics being found in the foods we eat.
