Traveling can open up the mind and relax the soul. Each year I try to go somewhere I’ve never been that will allow me to get refreshed and create new work. This year I chose Washington State. I’ve always been fascinated by the Pacific Northwest and was very excited to finally have the opportunity to go.
I spent time researching various things to photograph, which can be fun and daunting. Where do I start?…Who can I photograph?..Will the images be interesting? These are common questions I ask myself. When you approach personal work several things can limit what your able to do. You have to do the work yourself. You might not always have an agency or publication to back you up.
Luckily, I had a friend living in Seattle who approached a fisherman about the project. He agreed to meet up and let me photograph him fishing. It was an amazing day with just the perfect conditions. He didn’t catch anything but overall it was a great day of fishing.
